If you’re looking to get a job for a senior role in an established company some think it’s important to look the part and whilst that may be true it’s important not to overdress. If you’re going for a managers’ job for example and you overdress, you’ll look fake and like you’re putting on a massive front. It’s important to be comfortable when you’re being interviews. Don’t get us wrong we’re not saying you should wear your pajamas, we’re just stating that you should dress smart but not too smart, because it could work against you. Of course, context is important and this rule of thumb will depend on on the company you’re looking to work for, but I’ve found in my experience that dressing smart/casual tends to go down better, otherwise you can look smarter than the person interviewing you and no matter what they say, that’s not always going to go down well.
